What Is a Live Fiber Optic Signal Identifier?

A live fiber optic signal identifier is a non-intrusive testing tool that can used to detects optical signals in active fibers, identify signal direction and relative power, or uses a visible red light source to trace fiber paths. The MARSHINE model integrates a 30mW red light source, making it suitable for long-distance fiber tracing and clear fault visualization. Today, fiber optic network technicians often need to identify live fibers rapidly and safely without pulling live fibers or disconnecting service. MARSHINE 30mW Red Light Source Integrated Live Fiber Optic Signal Identifier is made for this use. The combination of high power (50mW) red light source and live signal detection allows the tool to be used for precise fiber identification, routing verification and troubleshooting in live network.

So How To Use MARSHINE 30mW Red Light Live Fiber Optic Signal Identifier?

Press the On/Off Button of the Device

Turn on your MARSHINE 30mW Red Light Source Integrated Live Fiber Optic Signal Identifier:

Check for battery status and allow the device some time to load;

Make sure the instrument is in the correct detection mode.

Clamp the Fiber Lightly

Lift the clamp and lay the fiber into the slot, please noted that:

Do not bend or pinch the fiber;

Make sure the fiber is properly positioned in the clamp;

The instrument searches for signals by detecting light leaking out, there’s no need to disconnect the fiber.

Live Signal with Direction

Then clamped:

The device will indicate whether the fiber is live;

Direction arrows indicates signal flow(Tx or Rx);

There might also be an indication of relative signal strength.

This can ensures proper fiber routing within active networks and allows for verification of proper fiber routing in live networks.

Turn on the 30mW Red Light Source

Turn on the red light source mode:

Red light is a visible light and it can be visible after passed through the fiber!

Light leaks at bends, splices or cracks!

This MARSHINE 30mW Red Light Source Integrated Live Fiber Optic Signal Identifier allows more convenient for tracing the fiber and locating the fault, distance wise.

Follow the Fibre Trail

Follow the visible red glow:

Find the right fiber routes;

Separate two or more fibers;

Check the continuity end-to-end;

This is especially useful in dense fiber distribution frames.

Finish Testing and Retract the Fiber

After identification, you need to:

Power off the red light source;

Open the clamp carefully;

And finally remove the fiber carefully without twisting and pulling.
